MENTOR FIRE DEPARTMENT

FITNESS CHALLENGE 2020

This is your friendly neighborhood Fitness Coordinator Firefighter Roberts.  2020 IS UPON US!  With the new year comes a new beginning and a challenge has been brought up to kick it off. A challenge that will need everyone’s involvement for success and in the process of achieving success, the greatest beneficiary is you.  You will gain the most.  It involves commitment, a fraction of time in your day and honesty.  You’re going to dedicate yourself to you.

The challenge is a 12 week challenge, not about how much weight someone can drop by eating lettuce, diet pills and zero carb energy drinks, but by being and staying consistent and willing to put in a little effort.  It’s a point based system in which each individual, crew and station will earn points based on charting their activity for the day.  A tiered shift workout will be posted on the MFD training page accommodating all fitness levels and updated/changed every A-shift morning and will remain the same for the 3 shifts. There are instructional videos attached to reference or you can call me at C-4, for direction.  Lt. Loparo (A-5) and Lt. Lee (B-4) have graciously volunteered to be shift liaisons and assist with the 12 week challenge.

Start Date is 12/31/19 (A-Shift)

Of course it’s going to be challenging. It’s supposed to be challenging.  If it were easy, everyone would do it.  A little progress each day is what it’s all about.  3 months from now, you will thank yourself.  Tomorrow you will have wished that you started today.   (feel free to add your own motivational quotes.  They’re all accurate)

The rules are as follows:

  1. Prior to or on Day one: Weigh in.  This is not for anyone else but you. No one else needs to record this, its just so you know where you’re starting from, establishing a baseline, if you will. If you want, you can take a picture as well.

  2. For next 12 weeks, Perform posted workout at YOUR actual level, not your perceived 18 y/o level.  This is NOT a time for egos. You do not have to perform the posted workout to earn points, although they are geared towards performing our job.  You can complete a workout of you or your crew’s choice.

  3. You can earn points off shift as well by performing workouts such as weight training, cardio, Yoga other physical activity at your assigned station, a different station, a fitness facility or at home (martial arts would count as physical activity, a workout at one’s home gym (honor based system), walking upstairs to go to the bathroom in between bags of chips does NOT count towards earning points)

  4. Challenge is 12 weeks or 3 months, if 12 weeks is too long for some.

  5. Buy in is $5.00 per MFD member.  At the end of the 12 weeks (or 3 months) top crew will pocket 50% cash prize, second place will receive 35% with third place crew earning 15%.

  6. Besides top crew winning, The personnel at the Top Station will receive a prize courtesy of Administration still yet to be determined.

  7. Chart your crew’s workouts as well as individual workouts and submit forms to your shift liaison weekly. A sheet for charting will be provided to stations.
